Somerset Hall, Portishead
Avon Amateur Dancers Club headquarters, hosting the vast majority of our club events. One of the best dance floors in the area.
Bar open on function nights. Ample free parking (details below).
5 minutes from M5 J19.
From M5 J19 (Gordano Services) take the A369 signposted for Portishead. After nearly 2 miles, at the first roundabout go straight on, then at the next bear left (into Wyndham Way). Turn left at the traffic lights opposite McDonald’s and then the parking for Somerset Hall is on the right.
The walkway into the Precinct and the entrance to Somerset Hall is at the far (Iceland) end, away from Aldi. Entrance to the hall is by electrically-operated doors – press the pad on the left to enter.
SatNav: BS20 8LR (Somerset Hall’s postcode BS20 6AH will take you to the front entrance in the High Street – which is not where the parking is.)
For overnight accommodation, there is a Travelodge and a Premier Inn close to Somerset Hall, and a Days Inn at the motorway services (Welcome Break Gordano).
Winter Gardens, Weston-super-Mare
Now having changed ownership and extensively renovated, the Winter Gardens has been a firm favourite of dancers for many years and hosts Avon Dancers’ competitions in the famous Oval Ballroom. Parking is offered at the nearby Sovereign car park and there are a range of local restaurants, bars and hotels for those attending events.
Leave M5 at the Weston-super-Mare exit (J21) and follow signs for Weston and the Sea Front. At the sea front follow the one way system past the Grand Pier, and the Winter Gardens will be seen ahead and to the right. Turn right immediately before the Winter Gardens to the Sovereign Car Park (note car park closing time – extended by arrangement for some Winter Gardens events but please check).
Entrance to the Winter Gardens is on foot from St Margarets Terrace, through the Italian Garden.

SatNav Points-of-Interest Files
The above venues are available as PoI files for loading onto satnav devices – specifically in TomTom and Garmin formats. I don’t have a Garmin to test it, but the TomTom works. The files for each device are bundled in a ZIP, you will need to download the relevant one, unzip it, then install to your device (in the case of TomTom, that just means copying the unzipped files into the map folder on your device, connected by USB to your computer where it will be seen as external storage). Try them out and let me know how you get on (via our Facebook page).
